1. Dominic Fike - Chicken Tenders (25 June 2020)
Florida singer and rapper Dominic Fike dropped his new single ‘Chicken Tenders’ this week, with a debut album rumoured to be on the way.
Fike had a massive his two years ago with ‘3 Nights’ (only the 442 million plays on Spotify) and the new single, where he sings about eating chicken tenders with his lover, is bound to have similar success. It’s a fun R&B pop banger and was Radio 1 DJ Greg James’ Record of the Week.
You can watch the accompanying video below.
2. Fontaines D.C. - Televised Mind (30 June)
A different tone altogether is the new single from Dublin post-punk band Fontaines D.C., who dropped the darkly hypnotic ‘Televised Mind’ on Tuesday (30 June 2020).
It’s a song about people using ‘echo chambers’ to get approval for their opinions, inspired by both The Prodigy and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
The Irish indie band will release new album 'A Hero’s Death' at the end of the month, following the critical acclaim of last year’s debut 'Dogrel'. With ‘Televised Mind’, the band have knocked it out the park again.
It’s an infectious droning rock 'n' roll song and the new video fits that mood perfectly.
3. Disclosure, Amine, Slowthai - My High (30 June)
British Dance duo Disclosure released the high energy ‘My High’ this week, with appearances from Oregon rapper Amine and British rapper Slowthai
It’s been five years since Disclosure’s last album 'Caracal', but the new singles keep coming ahead of third album ’Energy’, due to be released in August.
The new video, filmed in Mexico and LA pre-lockdown, features an unfortunate stretchered man being taken into the streets and traumatised. It’s all good fun, though, and can be watched below.
4. Haim - Don’t Wanna (29 June)
No one does synchronised walking quite like HAIM, and their new video, which dropped on Monday, doesn’t fail.
Outside the Los Angeles Forum (where they were due to play on their cancelled tour), they walk together. They race walk. They jog walk. They power walk. Then there’s running! This is revolutionary stuff here. Suddenly they stop and two of them ditch the other one. In a plot twist, the other one comes back in a car to win the race. The end. The character progression here is mindblowing.
It’s a catchy tune from sisters Danielle, Este and Alana Haim and it's the latest single from their new album ‘Women In Music Pt III’.
5. CampelPhat and Foals’ Yannis - Hypercolour (26 June)
The worlds of dance and indie rock collide as Yannis Phallippakis, the legendary frontman of Foals, adds vocals to Liverpool production duo CampelPhat’s new song ‘Hypercolour’.
It’s a hypnotic House banger and a perfect summer dance chill anthem for 2020. Check it out below.
